Chef Max Zamarripa of Latitudes & Steelheads in downtown Howard City, Michigan writes to invite Wine Sauvage readers to celebrate Ten Years of business in downtown Howard City. About a half-hour north of Grand Rapids on US-131, Latitudes is the opposite of hurried city attitudes. Steelheads Lounge is the fishing bar your grandfather talked about, with a touch of the equestrian lifestyle too, and a dash of bluegrass and country music for good measure.

Fun to note that Max graduated from Grand Valley State University with a degree in Nursing. Eat up. This food has received extra-special attention.

Celebrate Unsilent Night at Left Foot Charlie, Grand Traverse Village, composition by Phil Kline. Bring a Boom Box. 12-20 6 PM @PureMichigan

Time to dust off those boom boxes, laptops, Mp3 players, iPhone's and iPad....its time once again for Unsilent Night at LFC!

WHAT IS UNSILENT NIGHT?
An original composition by Phil Kline, written specifically to be heard outdoors in December. It takes the form of a street promenade.

Each Participant gets one of four tracks of music in the form of a CD or MP3. Participants carry boom boxes, or anything that amplifies music and simultaneously start playing the music. They walk a carefully chosen path (lead by Bryan Ulbrich, Winery Sherpa) creating a unique mobile sound sculpture which is different from every listeners perspective.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Each person is asked to bring their own boom box, laptop or other portable musical device to carry along the walk through the Grand Traverse Village Commons. Reservations are required. Upon reserving your spot you will receive the link information for downloading to your mp3 or a CD will be held on reserve for you at Left Foot Charley to be picked up at the event.

If you don't have a portable music player, you are still more than welcome to participate in the walk and hear the music. However, the more boom boxes there are, the better the piece sounds and the better the experience for all involved

**NEW THIS YEAR: There is a new iPhone/iPad App! Just download at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/phil-klines-unsilent-night/id483509723?mt=8

Dress for the weather and don't forget to download your music before you come!

WHEN:
The sculpture will begin at 6:30pm. Please plan to devote 45 minutes to this musical walk through and about The Village grounds. The sound sculpture will conclude at Left Foot Charley Winery for free hot cider, cookies, and vintage Christmas tunes played off the old Wurlitzer jukebox.

Schedule of Events:

At dinner, enjoyed a bottle of Lopez Noceti 1919 Malbec, 2011 Vintage. Don't ask me for tasting notes. Buy Your Own Bottle.

It's no secret that the Wine Sauvage is mad about wines from Mendoza Argentina made from the Malbec Grape. Lopez Noceti makes good use of the Malbec for its 1919 Malbec. I relished a bottle of 1919 at the bar of the Holiday Inn, downtown Muskegon. The 2011 vintage is clearly a drink now vintage, and yet this wine exceeds the term, table wine.

The wine is made in the vineyard, a yard of vines sixty years old, hand harvested from vines that have been pruned to give only a few grape clusters chance to mature. Low yield makes those grapes more potent. All of the grapes comes from this estate. The wine is aged for six months in oak from France and that barrel wood upstart, the United States.

The tannins are present yet softened. Acid is present and yet understated. Flavor is fruity, reminding one of blackberries and blueberries in an homemade jam. The aroma is fresh, reminding one of the fruit of the woods, our blackberries and blueberries.

The light acid and the robust fruit remind me of this bottle as the after taste lingers.

I paired this wine with a grilled New York Strip, medium rare, and the two made magic happen on my palette.
